Pair of Large Antique Chinese Octagonal Lacquer Boxes w Dragons
Description
Pair of large antique Chinese, Republic Era, hand-painted, red lacquerware octagonal lidded boxes, circa early 20th century. Each container features decorative motifs including dragons, clouds, mountains, fish, and waves. The lids depict two dragons chasing a flaming pearl, or the Pearl of Wisdom, surrounded by cloud patterns, while the sides are adorned with fish swimming among waves and stylized mountains. The interiors are black lacquered. Each box measures approximately 16-3/4″ (DIA) x 8-1/2″ (H). Provenance: Private collection (Birmingham, Michigan); purchased in Hong Kong in 1999. CONDITION: Surface wear and scuffing visible on the lacquer, particularly along edges and corners. Some areas of paint loss and minor scratches on the decorative surfaces. Interior lacquer shows signs of use, with some scuffing and wear. All consistent with age and use. SHIPPING: In-House Shipping Available
