Rare Early 20th Century German Musical Pig Toy
Description
Charming early 20th century German musical pig featuring a molded papier-mâché/composition body covered in its original felt with hand-painted black spotting, molded composition snout, glass eyes, painted wooden feet, and original ribbon collar. The internal music box is wound by turning the pig’s curled tail, and the mechanism plays as intended. Similar felt-covered musical pigs were produced in Germany during the late 19th and early 20th centuries and are prized today for their whimsical design and quality craftsmanship. An increasingly scarce survivor, this example retains its original character and presents as an attractive display piece for collectors of early German toys, automata, and mechanical music. Measures 6".
CONDITION: Overall wear consistent with age and use. Fabric shows minor discoloration and surface wear, particularly on the tail and legs. Ribbon is frayed and slightly soiled. Painted details exhibit minor fading and wear. No visible cracks or structural damage.
