Margaret I. (Huff) Guile (Okemos, Michigan, 1883–1945), Victory Garden watercolor painting on paper (12-1/2″ x 20-1/16″), signed “M. Guile” lower right, and depicting a basket of a fruit amidst a field of wildflowers and the titled “Insure the Fruits of Peace”. While the phrase can be traced back to the First World War, and a propaganda campaign created by the Nation War Garden Commission around 1918-1919, this particular piece mostly likely dates from the Second World War. Margaret Guile was born to pioneer Ingham County families the Huffs and the Buttons, and the Guile family farm was in Okemos where the Meridian Mall is now.
