Mary Howe (MICH/ME, 1942–2024) Hand-Colored Engraving Ltd Ed of 13/16
Description
Mary Cameron Howe (Michigan/Maine, 1942–2024), hand-colored engraving on paper, titled “Who is the Fairest”, signed lower right, titled lower center, and numbered (13/16) lower left, 20″ x 14-1/2″. Howe was born in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, graduated from Central Michigan University in 1964, was involved in teacher programs at the Cleveland Museum of Art, and later pursued further studies at the DeCordova Museum School in Boston, as well as being a docent and gallery instructor at the Museum of Fine Arts, also in Boston. After moving to Maine she became a prominent artist-in-residence and mentor in the New England craft community. She would go on to become an instructor and artist in residence at Haystack Mountain School of Crafts, Penland School of Craft, and the University of Southern Maine Book Arts Program. Howe’s works can be found in numerous private collections, as well as Bowdoin College’s Department of Special Collections and Archives and the Jaffe Collection at Florida Atlantic University’s Wimberly Library. Her work have also been featured in solo exhibitions at North Main Gallery in Salem, New York, the Kendal Gallery at Oberlin College, Ohio, and Blue Heron Gallery in Deer Isle, Maine.
