Antique salt-glazed stoneware jug, early 19th This antique salt-glazed stoneware jug is a quintessential example of early 19th-century American folk pottery (circa 1810–1830). The vessel features a classic ovoid form and a robust, hand-applied strap handle, hallmarks of early artisanal production in the Mid-Atlantic or New York regions. This piece is distinguished by vibrant brushed cobalt blue accents at both the upper and lower handle terminals, a traditional technique used to reinforce and decorate stress points. The surface exhibits a rich, “orange-peel” salt glaze texture, complemented by authentic firing characteristics such as “kiln kisses” and minor surface irregularities that underscore its hand-thrown provenance.
