Japanese Jizai Kagi Hearth Hook with Fish Counterbalance
Description
Japanese Jizai Kagi (hearth hook) assembly, traditionally used in farmhouse irori (sunken hearths) to suspend a kettle or pot over a fire. This piece features a polished bamboo main shaft with fine cord wrapping, leading to a carved wooden fish counterbalance (yokogi) finished in a dark, weathered patina. The set is complete with an iron suspension chain and a heavy metal hanging hook. The fish counterbalance, a traditional symbol of water, was believed to protect the home from fire. Bamboo part measures 16”. CONDITION: Some wear visible on the wooden shaft. Patina on the fish counterbalance shows signs of age. SHIPPING: In-House Shipping Available
