Description
John Esbern Christensen (Danish/American, 1911-?), oil painting on stretched canvas, titled “Scrap Iron” 1937, signed upper right “Chris ’37” and with a brass plate reading “Scrap Iron; by John E. Christensen; 1937 Scarab Gold Medal; 1937 Anna Whitcomb Prize”, and further information on the back from being exhibited at the Detroit Institute of Art in a exhibition of Michigan artists, in what is presumably the original natural pine frame measuring 43-7/8″ x 39-3/4″. Provenance: Private collection (Birmingham, Michigan); Weiss Gallery, (Bloomfield Hills, Michigan) 07/1998. Christensen was a Detroit artist and member of the Scarab Club.
