William Hentschel (OHIO 1892-1962) Watercolor
Description
Attributed to William Ernst Hentschel (American, 1892 – 1962), watercolor painting depicting a riverfront scene, possibly that of Cincinnati Ohio, circa mid 20th Century, in a double mat measuring 26″ x 20-3/8″. Hentschel was a leading early to mid 20th Century American designer, printmaker, and instructor who is predominantly associated with Ohio and specifically Cincinnati. He studied at the Art Students League and Columbia University in New York, the University of Kentucky, and the Cincinnati Art Academy. Hentschel was a designer for the Rookwood Pottery Company from 1913 till 1932, where he produced over 4,000 designs for ceramics. From 1921 till 1957 he taught at the Art Academy of Cincinnati.
