J.T. Abernathy (MICH, b. 1923) Stoneware Plate
Description
J.T. Abernathy (born, 1923), plum crackled glazed plate or shallow bowl, etched initials on underside, 7-3/8″ (DIA). Abernathy earned his MFA from the Cranbrook Academy of Art in 1951, served as a ceramics instructor at the University of Michigan from 1953 to 1956, and has been active in Ann Arbor Michigan art, and specifically ceramic, scene for more than 70 years. His work is in the permanent collections of the Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA), the Art Institute of Chicago, the Brooklyn Museum, the University of Michigan Museum of Art (UMMA), and the American Museum of Ceramic Art.
