Remington Model 1, 7mm, Mexican Military Rifle
Description
Remington Model 1 single-shot rifle chambered in 7mm, serial number 8664. Manufactured by Remington Arms Company and marked with patent dates ranging from 1864 to 1873. The rifle features a 30-inch round barrel with a blued finish. The receiver is stamped with “Republica Mexicana” and an eagle emblem, indicating probable use within the Mexican military. The stock and forearm are crafted from wood with a dark patina and visible handling marks. Equipped with a folding ladder rear sight and blade front sight. Single barrel band, steel buttplate, and sling swivels are present.
CONDITION: The rifle shows consistent wear commensurate with age and military use, including a faded and worn blued finish and numerous handling marks, dents, and scratches on the wooden stock and forearm. The receiver and barrel surfaces exhibit areas of oxidation and light pitting. The stock displays repaired areas, and one crack is visible near the receiver. The folding rear sight is intact, but minor rust is present. The bore has visible rifling but shows light pitting. Mechanical function was not tested.
