Two Mason Duck Decoys
Description
Pair of hand-carved wooden duck decoys, consisting of a black duck and a mallard hen. The black duck decoy measures approximately 14 inches in length, while the mallard hen measures approximately 15 inches in length. Both feature intricate paint details and aged patina consistent with vintage craftsmanship. The black duck showcases a dark-painted body with subtle green striping and a matte finish, while the mallard hen has a detailed patterned surface with gold and brown accents. Both pieces are weighted on the underside, with green felt pads partially visible. The eyes appear to be applied elements giving a lifelike quality to the figures.
CONDITION: Both decoys exhibit signs of age and wear, including paint loss, surface scratches, and scuffing, particularly visible on the beak and body areas. Some areas of the paint have chipped, exposing the wood beneath, most notably on the mallard hen’s side and base. The black duck has minor surface cracking along its body. Both bases show wear consistent with use, with remnants of adhesive or labels visible. The structural integrity of the wood remains sound, with no major cracks or breaks noted. These decoys display an appealing patina and wear consistent with their vintage condition.
