Lot 162:
Civil War Ammunition & Lead Relics - Historic Site
Description
A collection of Civil War-era ammunition and lead pieces attributed to various historically significant battle locations, including Cold Harbor, Richmond, Virginia; Bentonville; Cedar Mountain, Virginia; the White House; Winchester; and Black River. The lot contains multiple boxes, originally manufactured for dental materials such as AcryliTE Impact, Jectron, and Acribase, repurposed to hold the lead fragments. The collection features a variety of lead bullets, minié balls, musket balls, and other fragments, offering insight into the munitions used during this pivotal period in American history.
CONDITION: The ammunition and lead pieces demonstrate typical age-related patina, with some surfaces displaying oxidation or discoloration consistent with long-term exposure and burial. The containers are in fair condition, with varying degrees of edgewear, scuffs, and markings. Several boxes exhibit handwritten notations referencing the sites of recovery. Contents appear structurally sound but are unverified for completeness or exact quantities. Items are presented as relics, and condition is consistent with unearthed artifacts from the Civil War era.
