Description

Japanese World War II Naval Officer’s dress dirk featuring brass hilt fittings decorated with cherry blossom motifs. The grip is ray skin wrapped with gilt menuki and ribbed cord impressions. The blade measures 8? inches and is polished steel with a brass habaki at the base. The scabbard is black lacquer with engraved brass mounts and a suspension ring near the throat. Overall length 14¾ inches.
CONDITION: Blade shows light surface oxidation, faint scuffing, and areas of minor dark spotting. Brass fittings retain much of their gilt finish with age patina and scattered verdigris in recesses. Ray skin grip shows shrinkage and several cracks along the lower edge. Scabbard finish displays light wear and small abrasions consistent with age. Overall appears in good condition for an authentic wartime example.
