Epic Militaria & Edged Weapon Ring - The Super Auction
Lot 2559:
U.S. Model 1917 Remington Bayonet
Description
U.S. Model 1917 Enfield bayonet manufactured by Remington Arms Co., Ilion, N.Y., for use with the U.S. Model 1917 rifle. Features an 8¼-inch blued steel blade with a single fuller and hooked quillon crossguard. Ricasso is stamped “REMINGTON ARMS CO. ILION, N.Y.” The hilt is fitted with smooth walnut grips secured by two rivets, and a blued steel pommel with functional press-type release catch. Overall length 12¾ inches. The blade has been shortened from the standard 16-inch length of the original Model 1917 bayonet, likely as a postwar modification for knife use.
CONDITION: Blade retains much of its blued finish with edge wear and scattered oxidation toward the tip. Crossguard and pommel show areas of thinning and light brown patina. Grips appear replaced and show a lighter tone than typical, with clean surfaces and tight fit. Action catch functions properly. Overall presents in good condition. Grip panels appear to be replacements.
