Description

A regulation U.S. Model 1860 Light Cavalry Saber, dated 1862 and produced by Ames Manufacturing Co., Chicopee, Massachusetts. The ricasso bears clear markings “U.S. A.D.K. 1862” for inspector A.D. King, confirming Civil War-era issue. The opposite side is stamped “Ames Mfg. Co. / Chicopee / Mass.” The curved single-fuller blade retains its original form with a medium patina and areas of age spotting throughout. The three-branch guard and pommel exhibit a deep untouched patina, and the leather-wrapped grip retains its original twisted brass wire wrap intact. The number “12125” is stamped on the guard, consistent with wartime rack or issue numbering.
Blade measures 34 inches, overall length 39 inches.

CONDITION: Blade shows even gray patina with areas of light pitting and scattered oxidation; hilt tight with age-consistent wear to grip leather; wire wrap secure.
