German Army Officer’s Lion-Head Saber
Description
By F.W. Höller, Solingen. Gilt brass hilt with lion-head pommel featuring inset red glass eyes, oak-leaf decorated backstrap, and eagle-and-swastika crossguard. Black celluloid grip with twisted brass wire wrap. The curved nickel-plated blade is maker-marked F.W. Höller, Solingen and retains a bright mirror polish with minor scabbard friction marks. Complete with its black-painted steel scabbard fitted with a single suspension ring. A standard pattern German officer’s saber produced circa 1935–1945, representative of pre-war and wartime private-purchase dress swords.
Blade measures 31½ inches, overall length 37¼ inches.
CONDITION: Blade remains bright with minor surface marks; gilt retains strong color with light wear to high points; scabbard shows scattered finish loss and shallow dents.
