Epic Militaria & Edged Weapon Ring - The Super Auction
Lot 2540:
Late 19th C. European Rapier Replica
Description
A finely made late 19th-century European reproduction of a 17th-century swept-hilt rapier. The iron guard features a multi-bar “swept” configuration with recurved quillons and knucklebow, enclosing a wire-wrapped grip and turned iron pommel. The straight double-edged blade measures approximately 23¼ inches, forged from carbon steel with a flattened hexagonal section and visible age patina. Construction is fully peened with hand-forged elements rather than cast fittings, characteristic of quality antiquarian reproductions produced for fencing academies or private collections during the Victorian revival of arms and armor.
Overall length 28¾ inches.
CONDITION: Blade exhibits light oxidation and scattered surface pitting consistent with age; hilt shows even steel-gray patina.
