U.S. Model 1840 Noncommissioned Officer’s Sword by Emerson & Silver, Trenton, New Jersey, dated 1862. Features a straight, fullered 32-inch steel blade marked “U.S. / DFM / 1862” on one side and “EMERSON & SILVER / TRENTON N.J.” on the reverse ricasso. Fitted with a brass hilt having a ribbed grip and D-shaped guard. The Model 1840 was the standard issue sword for U.S. Army sergeants and color guards throughout the Civil War.
Overall length approximately 38½ inches.
CONDITION: Blade shows moderate gray patina with scattered pitting and age staining; markings remain legible. Hilt retains an even mellow brass tone with fine aged patina and secure grip.
