Imperial German Officer’s Lion-Head Saber
Description
An ornate Imperial German officer’s saber, likely a private-purchase cavalry or artillery example by Clemen & Jung, Solingen, circa 1895–1914. Features a gilt-brass lion-head pommel with inset red glass eyes, oak leaf-decorated backstrap, and wire-wrapped sharkskin grip. The curved, single-fuller nickel-plated blade measures approximately 31¼ inches in length and is richly etched with floral and geometric motifs, marked “Ges. Geschützt / Muster.” Overall length approximately 38 inches including the hilt and scabbard. Complete with its iron scabbard showing age patina and a single hanger ring.
CONDITION: Blade shows bright polish with crisp etching; hilt retains much of its gilt finish. Scabbard exhibits even oxidation and field wear consistent with age.
