Lot 2523:
L. Pomeroy Flintlock Musket Model 1816, Dated 1829
Description
L. Pomeroy Flintlock Musket, Model 1816, dated 1829, appears as a typical 1816-pattern military musket with a full-length round barrel secured by two iron barrel bands, a steel bayonet lug/ramrod set and an iron-mounted walnut stock. The lock plate is marked “L. POMEROY” with an eagle-type stamp and the barrel tang and barrel show stamped markings including “1829,” “U S,” “S.N.Y,” and inspector/acceptance initials visible as “JM” and a “P.” The firearm is equipped with its original-style iron ramrod with button head and a leather sling retained on iron swivel, and the furniture appears to be steel/iron throughout.
CONDITION: The walnut stock shows handling wear, multiple light surface scratches, small dents and scattered finish loss consistent with age and service; there is no heavy gouging but several small impact marks are visible on the butt and forearm. Metal surfaces show overall gray/silver patina with light pitting and scattered surface oxidation; there is green verdigris present around the breach/lockpan area. The lock and frizzen show period wear but retain detail on the maker marking. Overall the musket appears in honest, used condition consistent with an early 19th century service piece.
