Lot 2509:
Japanese Type 95 NCO Shin-Gunto Sword & Scabbard
Description
Regulation WWII Japanese Army NCO Shin-Gunto sword manufactured at the Tokyo First Army Arsenal, serial number 151611, with matching number scabbard. This early production Type 95 example features the desirable cast-aluminum grip finished in its original bronze-brown paint, molded with imitation cord wrap (ito) and rayskin (samegawa) texture. The fuchi is stamped with the Tokyo Arsenal five-pointed star, the subcontractor mark (Matsu), and a private maker’s logo. The sword has a brass tsuba and iron scabbard with two suspension rings, measuring 27½ inches blade length and 38 inches overall with scabbard.
CONDITION: Condition shows patina and oxidation throughout the scabbard with surface wear and age toning to the painted finish. Blade retains its original polish beneath aged lacquer residue with scattered oxidation and light edge wear from handling and storage. Grip finish shows wear to high points but remains structurally sound. Overall presents as a complete, matching-number wartime example.
