18k Gold Birth of Venus Shell Cameo c.1900
Description
This is a late 19th to early 20th century hand-carved shell cameo brooch depicting the classical scene “The Birth of Venus,” after Botticelli. The cameo features Venus standing on a shell, flanked by Zephyrus and Aura to the left and one of the Horae on the right. The frame is solid 18k gold, confirmed by testing, with an engraved border. The brooch retains its original extended C-clasp and pin assembly. The shell is intact with no visible cracks, and the carving displays good depth and detail. Weighs approx. 24.1 grams and measures 2 1/2” x 2”.
